J'cans
abroad remember Marigold Child Care centre
For every ray of sunshine, a blade of grass grows.
The children at
the Marigold Child Care Centre, on Lady Musgrave Road, Kingston were
beaming Tuesday morning as a group of concerned individuals came calling
with gifts.
For the past two
years, a young British Airways customer service agent, Jamaican-born
Gary Williams and a group of young Jamaican professionals residing
in New York, have hosted fundraising events in New York, the entire
proceeds from which go to charities in Jamaica.
'When I visited
the centre and saw the plight of the children here I was grieved,
especially when you consider their ages... most of them are under
10 years old. When you think of these smaller kids, you think love,
care, affection and food, especially important in the tender formative
years,' Mr. Williams said.
The Marigold Child
Care Centre houses about 40 needy children under the age of 11 years.
The US$7,035 contribution will assist the Centre in providing food
and clothing for kids, such as Patrick whose face is severely burnt,
cute Aquaraha, eight-month-old Moses Miller and handicapped children.
The major sponsors
of this year's fundraising event were SuperClubs, Sandals Resort,
Air Jamaica and BWIA.
Alpha Boy's Home
also received US$1,500 from the group last year.
