City of Refuge Child Care Facility
The City of Refuge Child Care Facility is owned and operated by the
Assemblies of God in Jamaica. The facility is licenced by the Honourable
Minister of Health and Environment on the recommendation of the Child
Development Agency which is consistently with the provisions of the
Children's Homes Regulations.
The facility caters
to over 55 children between the ages of 3 - 16 who have been made
wards of the State by an order by the Children's Court.
The programmes
at the facility focus primarily on academic training - school on compound
and in the community.
The facility is
sited on over 20 acres of land and is self sufficient in some agricultural
crops and chickens.
Children maintain
contact with their relatives and visits, letter writing and telephone
calls are encouraged.
The City of Refuge
Children's Home receives a subvention from the Child Development Agency
for each child placed by the Agency and benefits from donations from
individuals and organizations.
The facility aims
to prepare each child from for family reintegration and they are exposed
to counselling and support to enhance self expression and to maintaining
their full potential.
The City of Refuge
is monitored regularly by the Child Development Agency.
