St. Augustine Place of Safety

St. Augustine Place of Safety is owned and operated by the Child Development Agency which is an Executive Agency within the Ministry of Health and Environment.

This facility carters to approximately 50 boys who have been removed from their families as being in need of care and protection or having committed an offence.

The duration of the stay at the facility varies as some are discharged to other locations - foster care, other residential facilities or reintegrated with their families.

The programmes at the facility include academic classes, home economics and information development.

Some boys attend community school and churches and are permitted to visit with family as steps are taken to facilitate family reintegration. The operational cost for the facility is met by the State through the Child Development Agency but benefits from donations - cash and kind from well wishers.

The objectives of the facility are to provide the boys with the opportunity to realize their full potential and have them reintegrated with their families within the shortest time.

There is a Residential Social Worker who provides Individual and Group Counselling to the boys as we seek to encourage full expression and participation to enhance his growth and development.
