Glen Hope Nursery
The Glenhope Nursery is one of thirteen (13) Government operated Child
Care institutions in Jamaica. The facility, situated on premises owned
by Government, accommodates approximately fifty (5) babies and toddlers
who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, orphaned or disabled and
as a consequence are in need of care and protection.
The Home which was established in June 1973 is the first Government
built Nursery. This was in response to the need to house the increased
number of children who were being referred to the agency.
Children who cannot be returned to their families/relatives and are
made wards of the State by the courts, are returned to this facility
from where they may be adopted, placed in foster care or childrens
homes or eventually reunited with their families when circumstances
are satisfactory.
The children of school age at this home attend school within the community
,and health care is accessed from Government hospitals and clinics.
The home is supported both financially and in kind by various groups,
organizations and individuals from time to time.
In keeping with the mission of the agency, the Glenhope Nursery endeavours
to attend to all aspects of the childrens development spiritual,
emotional, physical and academical to ensure that they are equipped
to take their place in society.
